4th August Solar activity

4th August .. Very poor seeing conditions again today (lots of wind and cloud). I did the best I could and managed to get three different images (one at 540 nm to show the sunspots and two at Ha wavelength). All single exposures with a Canon 550d camera. Compare these with my images of 3rd August to see changes in the large prominence on the NE limb. Thanks for viewing.

Great images again John! Thanks for sharing them as we just didn't want to risk our equipment in the winds today.

Nice pics! Can I ask - if you're using an etalon to view the prominence, do you remove it to view the 540nm? What sort of filter do you use to get 540nm? Is it a full aperture filter or...? Sorry, I don't know much about the mechanics of solar observing.

Reply to Markus, I use two different scopes - a 81 mm WO refractor with a herschel wedge and 2" Baader continuum filter for the 540 nm shots (sunspots) and a Lunt 100 solar scope for the H alpha shots. Cheers John W.

Hi John,

Great shots despite the conditions.
