Making a start with M83 - updated

Hi

Attached is an image of M83 taken from Melbourne suburban skies over the last couple of days. Image cropped to 40% of full frame at about 50% of full size. Very compressed version attached here, or slightly better one here:

https://flic.kr/p/2kXdqpJ (OLD LINK)

Total of 130min exposure with a GSO RC14 and ASI 2600MC OSC camera.
Processed with APP.

Seems that I'm only getting about 1hr/week or so of somewhat use-able skies. Its going to take a few years to get a decent shot of anything!

Updated.....
Fortunate to get another two hours last night on this... added updated image.. 230min total time

Heavily compressed version attached

new link for a better version here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/991328.../shares/0h6885

cheers

Top shot. Love the colours and details.
I hear your frustration. I'm trying to image this one as well and have to content with moon, clouds and light pollution. I have a small window of opportunity this new moon. Fingers crossed.

superb already, so much detail and lovely subtle colour treatment. I guess some more data will bring the noise down a little, but even as is has so much going on and could scan for some time picking out new aspects.

That's a super shot! I'm also trying to image it between clouds. It's hard going.

That certainly looks a lot smoother and you can see the increased SNR brought some really nice details in the core. You should try to put the linear raw file through Startools see what you can get out. It has a good sharpening algo and also a excellent noise reduction. Worth a try.

Hi Maurice,
you've done well as that's a very sharp picture.
Over 7 years ago there was considerable debate about
the quality of GSO RCs - 9 pages here:
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...=103140&page=9
However - it seems to have worked out OK.

cheers
