A Sydney Lockdown Trifid.

Hi all,

I've been trying to capture subs on this one over the last fortnight but (as ever) I didn't end up with as much integration as I'd have liked.

We've had pretty good weather over the last fortnight and I've been trying to split my time between planetary and deep sky. Being in Bortle 7/8 skies I'm loathe to image when an object gets below about 40 degrees as you can really see how much more murky the sky gets at lower altitude. I planned to collect more subs on this during a clear evening on Wednesday but my mount started playing up with power problems .

I'm still not completely happy with my guiding & the resultant star profiles so there's still plenty of tuning needing done (after I work out what the power problem is).

Telescope: Skywatcher MN190
Camera: ZWO ASI2600MC
3.5 hours total - 2.5 min subs at gain 100.

Higher resolution version: Astrobin Lockdown Trifid

Comments & CC welcome.

Wow, Pete!! That's from Sydney? I would have guessed a B3 sky at minimum.

Great work, this is beautiful.

There were a few gradients to remove.

Thanks Martin - a fair way off being as deep as yours but I'm happy with the result given the level of LP.

Excellent resolution. Assuming that the Trifid is really a tom-cat's face, I can see the Herbig-Haro jet in the pussy-cat's ear, and the two bright stars on the pussy-cat's nose each resolve into a triple, which is pretty fine shooting. Rare to see that. The reflection nebula came out well.
