ED127 triplet APO

This is a lovely scope of 127mm diameter, F7.5 (952mm FL). The Explore Scientific clone of this scope would sell for US$1999 (A$3000 plus GST, freight etc) if they could get hold of them. They are hard to get but good to find.

I have fitted mine with a lovely Moonlite CF2 inch focuser with a new hi-res stepper motor and V2 controller for spot-on focus control. The focuser is able to rotate without focus loss - great for image composition. Note that the Explore Scientific version only has a rack and pinion focuser.

The Moonlite replacement focuser alone cost over A$1100 landed (if you could get one).

Lovely optics. A couple of surface scratches on the tube body Comes with solid original aluminium box. Shown accessories (camera, mount, Hotech adapter) not included.

Current replacement cost would be over 4 grand. This is priced to sell at $1750 plus freight. Pickup definitely better since the whole kit and caboodle (including Al case) weights over 11 kgs.

A query

What brand of scope is it?

What is the weight of the scope and focuser?

The scope was made by North Group (which I believe was part of the Hioptic chain). I imported a couple of these scopes direct from North Group over the years because I like them so much. These scopes were rebadged by Meade and Explore Scientific and marketed accordingly.

Weight: my bathroom scales report 9 kgs.

Here are some images.
