Anyone here running a SoftWare Defined Radio ( SDR )

Frequency range: 100kHz - 2 GHz ( unblocked all the way up to 2 GHz )

I did a lot of searching about SDR's on the Net.
There are various SoftWare applications available ( free ) to run an SDR ...

I have an Icom 7100 and a Kenwood R2000 HF Receivers... ( Hardware )
I listen to the Aircraft on the Trans Pacific Air Routes on 8867 ( Primary ) and 5634 ( Secondary ) ... talking to New Zealand / Nandi / and San Francisco.
A lot of Ham Operators can be listened into also.

My rooftop aerial ( as shown ) will match it quite well.

EDIT ..... It is possible to ' listen in ' to the IIS provided you have the USB ( Upper Side Band ) current frequency ....which can be found on the Net very easily.

I don't have one myself, but my dad, who is a bit of a ham radio fanatic, got into these quite a few years ago.

They do seem to be a neat piece of kit if that's what floats your boat

Dragging up an old thread. SDR's are cheap nowdays, the RTLSDR Blog V3 is available from SEComms https://secomms.com.au/product/rtl-s...-radio-dongle/
There are eBay sellers offering the same but having tested the ebay variants it's apparent that they are copies and the perfromance is nowhere near as good as the item from SEcomms. I use various SDRs including the above listed USB dongle, the performance of the RTLSDR BlogV3 is close to anything on the market and at a cost of $45 they're a bargain. You need software to drive them, I use SDR Console, once configured they will receive from longwave bands right to microwave in all modes.

The Duo model has some great features with twin tuners, (see video for aircraft listening). I’m torn between the RSPDx and RSPduo. Not cheap but neither is anything astronomy related. If you have more than one hobby it’s a case of which gets financial preference and that’s probably why I haven’t bought one yet. You need a good antenna or two to cover the full spectrum too.

I’m not sure how the hardware and software compares with other receivers but I was impressed enough by what I saw to stop looking further.

If considering, buy direct from SDRplay (they ship OS) or from one of their authorised resellers to get a genuine device. See their fake product alert.
