Long delayed first light

Believe it or not I bought a FSQ106ED last September and this is the first opportunity I've had to use it. Most of the delay has been due to the weather but there have been other factors too. Last night was completely clear in Canberra which is pretty amazing given the 200mm we've had in recent days.

On the whole I think this image turned out pretty well given it's the first time I've used this scope. Some minor adjustments for focal plane tilt may be necessary but I'll get to that later.

I'm afraid it's Eta Carinae again.

Cheers

Steve

Oh well, better late than never as they say

Nice first result Steve, I can see some lovely new work coming from sunny Canberra in the coming months ...what about your Tak E180..??

I notice the framing is a bit off (well from the conventional central object look anyway)..is that the self guide chip not cooperating again or your artistic side?

Mike

Thanks Mike. I didn't pay too much attention to the framing as I wasn't sure how long it was going to stay clear. Don't know if the E180 will ever see the light of day again. Anyone want to buy it?

Nice one Steve, now that you are down-scaling your focal length you must find imaging at wide field a breeze

Clear skies

Very nice Steve.

The reducer is a great accessory for the 106ED and it suits the STL11 camera well.

Thanks Greg. I take it you mean the F3.6 reducer. I was thinking of getting that.

Thanks Marco. I haven't done any wide field imaging for ages and it is certainly a different experience.

Looks promising Steve. I really like the contrasty look to this initial work.

Thanks Paul, Frank and Ross. It seems to be finally clearing up in rainy old Canberra so maybe I'll get some more data in the next few days.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

Amazing image, it actually reminds me of the day of the trifids, even more so than the trifid nebula.

Cheers,

Justin.
