Thumbs up Moon, Venus and Jupiter Conjunction - March 2012

In the month of March 2012, the early evening provides some fantastic viewing and photographic opportunities in the Western dusk sky.

Early in the Month, the planets Venus and Jupiter converge closer to each other each day, until they are at their closest around the 15th March when they'll be separated by around 3 degrees.

After March 15th, they begin to diverge slowly but are joined by the thin Crescent Moon on March 25th, 26th and 27th - forming a great trio of celestial objects to view.

I've put together some sky charts and also some general information about what a conjunction is and how to photograph it, here on IceInSpace:

Moon, Venus and Jupiter Conjunction - March 2012

I look forward to seeing your images and reports here, and on our Facebook page.

Cheers

Is anyone out there looking at them?

I got a nice view from Gosford Waterfront this evening - after a beautiful pink sunset, Venus and Jupiter were pretty much straight up and down relative to the horizon. Like a set of beacons!

Hopefully the photos turned out nice - I only had a few minutes in between taking my daughter to a swimming carnival so was a bit rushed.

Yes I had a quick look last night. Had time to take a couple of photos before the cloud moved in. Cloud hasn't moved since.
Cheers Bob

I also wrote a very simple blog post: http://www.luisargerich.com/blog

Up next is the Venus visit to the pleiades as it happens every 8 years!

Ty Liz & Mike !

I setup on the "other" side of the road to let some light of the trucks and cars lit the grass I think it worked but I have a zillion shots ruined by crossing vehicles. I had to time the approach of lights and the exposure times while battling about 1 million mosquitoes, it was fun I even had time to watch the conjunction in peace.
