Celestron Travelscope 70mm

Hi,
I have picked up the above scope and made a few mods: darkened objective lense edges, improved internal baffling, tightened the play in the focuser. I am using a decent 90' mirror diagonal rather than the stock 45' prism that came with it.
The views with the stock 20mm plossl have been really pleasing with sharp images of the moon, saturn and jupiter, especially when stepping down the scope to tame the CA.

I was able to try a 12mm Televue Delos and was very underwhelmed with the views which showed a much wider field but poor detail and a kind of smudging of the image. I was expecting this eyepiece to lift my scope to a new level!!
Is a high quality eyepiece such as the Delos just too much for this little achromat to handle? Any thoughts appreciated.
