Separate channels for ha and oiii from dual-pass narrowband filter!?

Hi all

I'm new. And this is probably a dumb question... but...

I think I read somewhere that it is possible to separate the ha and oiii data into separate channels when processing, even though it was all collected through one dual pass narrowband filter. In my case it's the Baader UHC-S.

Is this possible? Doesn't seem right to me.

Thanks and clear skies all 👍

If you download a copy of FITS Liberator, it can save the RGB components separately as TIF files.

in an rgb camera, the red channel will be Ha, the green and blue will be O3. you can select individually a channel, select all, copy and in the meantime paste into a new tab as a black and white image [image->mode->greyscale]. for the O3 you could layer the blue and green into one black and white image.
however you should use bayer drizzle in DSS i believe...

Well I'm a bit excited about this...

I shoot with a dslr controlled by apt, which I think will export fits files but I'll have to check. If however I can use gimp to separate the rgb channels on the dss Tiff file, even easier.

2/3 Hubble Palette here I come?

Thank you both

Yes. I'm using the STC duo filter on an OSC camera. I regularly separate the R and G to get Halpha and OIII. It's pretty cool. Is the baader uhc narrow enough around the two wavelengths?
