Recommend a plumber - Melbournish

Hi All

Looks like I may need a new hot water system. Does anybody have a plumber they trust who works around the Dandenong area?

Thank

Philip

Leaking or tripping the circuit?

If it’s electrical it may very well be the element has corroded.....much cheaper than a new HWS!

HI

Neither, its a gas system and I think the pilot is failing to stay alight. I confirm that over the next couple of days.

It may be cheap enough to repair, but, at nearly 20years old, replacing is a better long term solution.

Hi Phil,

I'm not sure which areas he works, but Bruce from ABC Plumbing is great in the Melb SE.

Best

Get plenty of quotes.

I got a reputably reviewed company off the web (i wont give the name). They came and quoted $5400 to replace a 160 liter electric water heater.

I was stunned, the replacement unit they quoted was a rheem which is around $1200 from Bunnings. So they were trying to charge over $4000 for installation, over $1000 an hour. They kindly offered to arrange a loan...

What a joke,

I got another few quotes and eventually got a local company who did it for $2300 including the unit. The job took about 2 hours including draining old unit and taking the old one away.

I still felt this was expensive but after the first outrageous quote I was happy to pay it.

Hi

I replaced it with a heat pump unit, very happy with it, and especially happy with how gas prices are going!

Used about 1/3 less gas than same time last year.

Yep . A heat pump is the most efficient although they do make a soft noise. I have had a quality one for 20 years which only draws 10 amp and only recently replaced. Rinnai are making them now in Australia although they require 15 amps as they have a backup element to cover alpine locations and keep the unit from freezing outside. The quantum model has no need for the element due to their design.

The problem is the cheap units made in china to get the Renewable Energy Certificates giving them a bad name and that plumbers are not experienced in them. Better installed and serviced by the manufacturers recommended mechanical tradesman or air con contractors.

Hi there, guys. The first thing I did when I moved into a new house was to find a plumber. Actually, it took me 3 months. It turned out to be a more difficult task than I thought. Eventually, my friend recommended hydro jet drain cleaning fullerton. So, I've been living in Fullerton for more than 5 years, and I still trust these guys. So, I hope I've helped you. Anyway, keep the topic updated on more plumbers' contact information. We need more reliable specialists. Thanks in advance. Best wishes to you, guys.
