The NEQ6 uses straight cut spur gears in the drive system, whereas the EQ6-R uses a belt drive system, that is why the NEQ6 can seem noisy when slewing, in comparison to the EQ6-R, not because of any motor differences.
There are kits one can fit/have fitted to the NEQ6 to turn it in to a belt drive mount, which would be substantially quieter. The smooth drive due to the belt drive could
potentially (no guarantee) also improve tracking accuracy and hence guiding results, which would be more noticeable (and beneficial) at very extreme image scales.
