focusing with a magnifying right angle finder

Has anyone here tried focusing stars with a 2.5x right angle viewfinder
attachment when using a DSLR without LiveView?

Yes.
I sometimes use the old Olympus x2.5 viewer with the DSLR when doing spectroscopy.
It works for me.

Thanks Ken, that means that I could look at purchasing an older modded
DSLR.
