Hi all,

Just have a quick question as it is my first time attending. I will be driving up on Friday afternoon and will most probably get there after end of daylight, is it pretty straight forward driving along the path with headlights off or will guidance be needed?

Looking forward to being there

Cheers,
Aran

Are you camping or bunking?

If you're camping, It's easy enough to get to, just drive slow and once you get to where people are observing just switch to your parkers and people can guide you in to a clear spot.

Ok, looks like now I'll be coming to Lostock with my three youngest ones, Andrew Jr, Rachel and Rebekah.
Aiming to be there for Friday and leaving Saturday, just an overnight stay.
Hope to see you all there.

Currently in Gresford after heading out to the scout camp to unload supplies from the trailer, and now picking up bins.

A couple of notes.

- there's some loose road surface in the first 5-10km from the Gresford shop. Drive carefully.

- there's been no slashing of the road edge so the grass is long in some sections of the windy road from Gresford, and reduces visibility. Drive carefully.

- lots of flies about. Bring repellant.

- it's going to be clear tonight and looks good for tomorrow too!

- it's very dewey at night and morning. Bring few prevention.

- the camp grounds and imaging fields have been slashed, but there's still clumps of mowed grass around that will no doubt stick to your shoes

Look forward to seeing everyone!

Deeno, try not to caress Mary Rose when you do see her, I don't want the focal length of my scope to grow any longer than it is already.

Hey guys

We've had a fantastic time so far. The sky was beautiful last night. Crystal clear all night. A bit dewey but bearable. Got quite cold too.

The forecast is looking good for the next 2 nights too!

Here's a little sample of last night's efforts!

Alert - possible you may see an aurora saturday/sunday

Quote:
g'day all

a significant solar flare (m6.5) has produced a earth-directed
coronal mass ejection that is predicted to arrive on late saturday
night (13th) or early sunday morning (14th). The australian ips has
issued a geomagnetic storm alert and an aurora advisory.
Geomagnetic activity forecast
13 apr: Quiet to major storm
14 apr: Major storm then down to unsettled

aurora are possible for at least tasmanian and southern new zealand.
Southern victoria, southern sa and the southern tip of wa should also
be on the lookout. In the last storm, aurora were photographed
(although not visible to the unaided eye) in northern nsw. However,
although this is a major cme, with favorable magnetic properties, it
still could be a fizzer.

The cme will arrive after the thin crescent moon has set, so
conditions should be ideal for observing aurora, should the
geomagnetic storm set them off. As usual, look to the south for
unusual glows, colours and arcs of light. Dark sky sites have the
best chance of seeing anything. Images of the previous storm are in
the link below, for reference.
http://astroblogger.blogspot.com/201...ts-aurora.html

cheers! Ian (on the 13th, 14th and 15th the thin crescent moon near
jupiter will look quite nice, with the best views on the 14th)

.
yes guys if you made it up the mountain to log on then pass this on the other iisers there

Hi guys

Last night was pretty good - some patchy cloud but enough clear sky to photography and look at. It cleared up nicely around midnight and then again at 2am.

Forecast for tonight looks about the same, a bit patchy but hopefully we can beat this change that's on the way!

Here's one of last nights many GB's of images:
http://www.mikesalway.com.au/download/391

I noticed the stars reflecting off the car so decided to incorporate it into a selfie

It's from up on the mountain ridge near where we watched Comet McNaught in 2007, but about 5 min further up the road. Lovely view to the SE and over Lostock Dam.

IISAC was mentioned on the morning breakfast show, am not sure if Emma Ayres the usual presenter was on. A regular listener named Mel phoned in to tell them where he was and he was sent a hello. Gave the location as Lostock scout camp in the Hunter valley. Whoever you are, thanks Mel!
