Dew mitigation for dSLR lens

Hi all, have a dumb question regarding the best way to zap dew from a SLR lens. Was taking a series of shots last night for a timelapse movie and about 1.5 hours into it everything was covered in dew. Would a dew strap around the lens hood help things out? Also wondering if it's worth knocking up an extended hood out of plastic and taping it to the hood if that would help.
cheers!

Yep a little dew strap - 2" or so with mild heating - should do the trick. I have done so several times. Keep the strap right out at the end of the lens - don't want to get the chip toasty warm??

I guess get to temperature and recheck focus just in case?
