I will be making my way up to QLD for my first Astrofest this year. I have booked my flights to Brisbane to go up on the 12th, come back on the 22nd, so I'm still undecided on which actual days I will be attending. I will be traveling there with my dad, who lives in Brisbane, and using his 12" dob

Always assuming that the tickets you buy end up in the barrel
OMG ...
Only 36 days to go... Can't wait for that fresh Duckadang air.

I've bought new snow boots and snow pants to battle the frosty Duckadang nights. Hmmm toasty warm.

I was thinking about riding to Duckadang but if I have to bring home my winnings I had better bring the 4x4.

How do I go about buying raffle tickets? Do I have to buy them at the AstroFest or is there another way? Do I have to be there to claim the prize?
I haope to make it this year but I cannot plan that far ahead.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people to pick up your prize... perhaps not for you .
Raffle tickets can be bought from any of the club reps on the committee. If you are not a member of a club, I'm sure that if you attend a meeting they will sell you tickets anyway. Alternatively, you could probably buy tickets by sending a cheque or money order with a note explaining what it is for. The address is The Registrar, 34 Kilkenny St, ACACIA RIDGE, QLD 4110.
Prizes are collected by first in best dressed. If you are not able to come, print out the raffle page and number your prizes in order of preference and send that no later than one week befor the camp. I might have to knock up a preference sheet.... hmmm... another on the "to do" list
And yes, I have been known to sell tickets occasionally at Astrofest if coaxed... I am the shy retiring type as any one will tell you .

Unfortunately I have family commitments that require me to be back in Newcastle so we will be leaving very early on the Saturday and have to miss out on the group photo, the raffles and the dinner and challenging for the counter weight toss and the vendor sales (sniff, sniff). I am hoping that we can slip up there one day earlier – I am yet to discuss those terms with the boss but I am hopeful that we may try to get there on the Friday night 14th August. Might have to ask for a refund on the Saturday activities, photo and dinner, though I will be purchasing some tickets for the raffle – might have to ask some caring individual if they will pick up the wining prize for me LOL.
I am so looking forward to this trip.
Alan, I know that this retirement is a tad early but I wish you all the best for the future, and what a better way to do that then to celebrate with a weeks worth of photon collecting at Astrofest.
After this trip I will be building the observatory

Only 22 days to the Queensland Astrofest, and incidentally, the closing of the Astrophotography Competition. There has only been one entry so far... even I might have a chance if this keeps up .
If you have a photo you want to enter either send the image (no larger than A4) sandwiched between some serious cardboard, contact a club representative on the committee, or send a request to the registrar and we will see what we can do to get your entry in. Alternatively, we can print it for you (but we must get the file prior to the camp as we want to have the entries viewed on the first evening) but bear in mind the colour balancing may not be to your liking (we have a 6 colour printer here and others have good quality printers as well), and there will be a fee of $5.00.
Get your entries in!
Details on the Queensland Astrofest website.

I'll get along to one of these...one of these years...
Sigh...
Just out of curiosity...is it allowed for folk to just turn up without booking? Would I just have to pay for a 24-hour pass if I only wanted to stay the one night?
And I s'pose all the accommodation is booked out...like, weeks ago?!?!

Why is it too late?.. You have until the 10th of August to get it to us.
Some people are only with us for a short time and if the image is not up, you might miss out on votes, so we've decided that everyone will have the same chance... If we have not received it before we go to Astrofest it won't be in.
Come on! Even an NSW back line can get it here in 2 and a half weeks... just?

You can come up and stay, but if you don't book and pay we can't guarantee you a bed. Although with the longer format there is less chance of missing out as it is more relaxed up there... At least last year it seemed more relaxed.
If you go to the Astrofest website you can see a table in the "Notice Board" that shows the accommodation for each night. This table is "semi-live" so the numbers are reasonably accurate... the bunk numbers are, caravan/campers and family accommodation are not.
