Bit of inspiration (??):

I also have a short flat base for the Dob box, which is perfect for kids under 10 yo.

But I should have used thinner plywood. I chose the materials on a general principle of engineering: if you are unsure and can't be bothered, make it strong enough to take 10x the load.

I think I may be able to pull it apart if I... blow it up or something. Looking on the underside it has a bolt that obviously holds it together, but it's got a round head on it. They really don't want you pulling it apart. I'm sure there will be a way around it.

I'd make another mount but the telescope offers such terrible views I can't be bothered. The tube is going to the scrap heap, the mirror is going in the bathroom to serve as an actual mirror. The mount I'm looking at turning into a bino mount.

The finder? Totally useless. It's made of a cheap plastic, and you can't see any stars through it. Actually even in broad daylight all you get is a nasty distorted image with discolouration and terrible detail. The finderscope has been totally useless with this thing, and I would have replaced it if the telescope hadn't been so terrible anyway.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm going to tear the mount apart and see if I can mount my binoculars on it. But the telescope itself is going straight to the bin. Rest asured that the mirror will still live on in the bathroom, probably in a drawer somewhere.
