Brendan,
Great capture and it is interesting to watch the image change as it is being manipulated. Gives me a few ideas. Modded 40D is plenty good.

Thanks
Frank

very nice image Brendan. Looks like you have got everything working very nicely. To me the image seems a little blue but I like the robust colours a lot. Detail, focus and guiding all look pretty good.
Glad you have everything working well.
Look forward to seeing more images.

Well after the pestering of my partner saying that the first stack that and process that i did (without the processing of the core) was alot nicer in colour. so i just did a bit of layer masking and got those "robust colours" to show. let me know what you think.

The colours might seem quite over processed but on the pc thats colour calibrated looks a mint.

This is a great shot Brendan, I like the composition too, nice work .

It is fun doing Sidonio's (ie repo's ) but you need to be careful that you don't get lost and end up going backwards.

I agree with big JJJ, the first shot was a bit too luminous and lipstick but otherwise it was the best IMO.

Great work and again it looks mighty fine with or without the lipstick

Mike

Excellent shooting Brendan.

It will always amazes me how a violent explosion can look so beautiful.

thanks all. when i head down to Dryandra on the new moon im going to look at getting some nice vibrant shots of Running man to add in as a mosaic to compleat the picture. heres to then

Oh and Martin yes the mod was more than worth it i belive! the DSLR now works a treat fully opened up now all i have to do is sway curtin to spend some dollars in the narrow band filters Ha, O3, S2

Good luck with Dryandra Brendan, looking forward to more results.. I take it you're planning to add more exposure to the M42 image?

Ha O3 and S2 filters on a DSLR may work, but you're looking at mammoth exposure times.. think 30 minute subs minimum in S2, and probably LOTS of them in order to have a noise free image.. if they were fairly wide filters (somewhere between 15~12nm) you might get away with it, but something in the realms of 7~3nm you'll likely never get enough data with a DSLR... Keep that in mind when trying to sway curtin to spend dollars!

well the modification that is done on the DSLR isn't a filter replacement its just open! no filter at all so the cmos sensor is open to this filter range! but i have the understanding that you need some good lengthy exps for this.

Yea, still, its got a bayer matrix film, so Ha will still only be captured in 1/4 of the pixels, and the sensitivity of the CMOS sensor in the camera is fairly low, regardless of the filter (or lack there of). Long exposures and lots of them will give you a good result... but be ready for some seriously long total exposure images spanning multiple nights...

Apart from the guiding being a tad off egging the dimmer stars, I'd blow that pic up and hang it on my wall.
And hey when did you see the crack in the cloud cover in perth for that shot?
Oh and while I think of it I ordered a book on setting up a small observatory the publisher delivered 2 copies by mistake, PM me if you want the spare copy for studies or whatever. seeing as you live locally.
