Here is the comparison in sky at night if you are interested.

I doubt you would be too upset with a 10mm Pentax!

Like Paddy says - think about what final magnifications you are after and how you can make it work with your barlow.

Hope you enjoy the GSO 12 - a great scope.

Cheers
David

havn't those 7mm xws gotten pricey again $750 plus frieght.. not one to tell the wife about.. the 10 or 14 would work great in your scope.I went the 14 and grabbed an 8.5 xf .. which works well.. used to have a 7 mm nagler which I found a little to much power on most nights.

I had a real assortment of eyepieces until I purchased a 5" APO refractor. I found it frustrating to be continually refocusing between placing different eyepieces in the scope and then varying fields of view. I eventually went with the Vixen LVWs as they are parfocal throuout the range and same field of view. They are very crisp with a more than excellent eye relief. They gave me all I was after but at $300+ a pop not cheap to get a set. I have the 40,22,17,13,8 and 5mm. I these I would recommend the 22, 13 and 8 as the best and then fill in as you feel the need.

Hi Graham,

Those prices are ridiculous. Clearly related to the current world economic situation and the $AUS exchange rate. You could buy each of the 1.25" models (3.5;5;7;10;14 &20) for about $380 only six months ago. I have all of the 1.25" versions, which I purchased about 6 years ago. I paid about $440 each for them from Star Optics, when the exchange rate to $US was similar to what it is now.

Personally, I would be looking for them 2nd hand at those prices, or waiting a few months for the ecomomy to settle.

Cheers,
John B

Keep an eye out for Pentax XL on the 2nd hand market. Theres not much to pick between the xl and xw optically other than 5 degrees lesser field.

A few months ago I got a near mint 7mm XL for $230au.

Gee, why do people buy overseas? You can buy the 1.25" XWs in the US for around $485AU
