Way to go Phil , it's the fiddly bits that take the time.

David, at a guess, no less than 2 meters wide, what would it cost you to hire a longer and wider trailer , would make the job a whole lot easier and safer.

Cheers

I am asuming that you are refering to one of those enclosed removal type trailers. I just measured the dome height, it is close to 1400mm so you should have plenty of height in one of those, the only requirement would be that it is at least 2.5 meters long. You would possibly be able to tie some of the walls to the trailer sides for security. Hope that helps.

Cheers

That would do the job, you would be able to tie off the walls securely in that, once again, take plenty of removalist blankets or packing, it will stop any scratches and marks, it appears a damm site safer than using a small box trailer....

Cheers

From a email I got from Sirius a few days ago.

"It will come on a pallet 2.3m L x 1.8m W x 1.6m H and weighs approx. 250Kg."

Looking at the pictures, it seems like the half dome on the pallet could act as a big wind catcher. Could be fun if you get a strong cross wind.

That will do the job, plenty of spots to tie off on, you would be able to tie off a heavy tarp as well to ease the wind resistance.

yep thats rght - tarps not a problem for me have heaps and plan to do that to stop bugs birds and others peeking and be extra padding between the sides of the trailer

How good are old threads on Ice In Space?!

Thanks to houghy and the other contributors to this thread. Helped me a lot with planning the collection of a 2.3m Sirius dome I picked up on eBay.

For the record, I did it with a 10*6 tandem trailer from U-Haul (one of few it seems that allow inter-state trailer hire). If you were prepared to get creative with the layout, perhaps standing the wall panels upright you might be able to manage with a narrower trailer, but 10*6 certainly makes life easier on the packing front. Tandem trailer tows great too but you need a hefty vehicle.

Now I have my project for later in the year lined up

Phil

Sorry to revive an old thread but am now I the process of going and picking up an Observatory myself, ist not a long trip for me abou 40km max each way.

I have booked this ute from Bunnings Toyota 1 tone. Been told the tray size is 2.5m x 1.8m got some conflicting info on the width being maybe 1.5m

http://www.handyrentals.com.au/utes/

https://www.bunnings.com.au/our-serv...re/get-it-home

I am hoping this is enough , any tips appreciated. Will I need to have more space for the maxDome? My friends and I (Losmandy tiro) will be taking my friends 4wd also to carry the lx200 12" pier and anything else that does not go into the ute securely. Unfortunately none of us have a tow bar else we would have take a trailer like David used.

Appreciate any tips advise help.

Thanks and Regards
Fahim

Attached is a pic of how mine was packed on the pallet. It was too big a footprint for a 7'x4' trailer. So I hired a car trailer. Hope that helps.
