gmail is pretty good at filtering out spam, and for me, so is my ISP.
i know some people don't like them - they are aussie based and the logo is a big 'T'....but i have to say we don't get much....certainly not 84 in a day.
A couple of things you might consider....
Use gmail as your contact address for online forums and other things - especially if you think they might be less than secure or a bit dodgy.
have another email address that you use exclusively for the important stuff like banking, centrelink etc.
I also make a habit of never letting my browser remember my details, things like phone numbers, email addresses, credit card. (never, ever store passwords)
It is a convenience that can be exploited to get your details - this may be why you are getting so many.....
This works for me - mileage may vary
