G'day Dave. If the best spot for a pier is in the easement, I'd just put it there.

What I was warning about earlier is a first preference type thing. More applicable to observatory etc. A pier would probably not be considered "building work" - in the event that some maintenance needed to be done on the service (eg sewer) and the pier was in the area needing to be excavated, it could be removed. Highly unlikely, though.

Just be aware that there is some kind of service there. If digging, keep it shallow and hand dug, and cautious.

Why not just use tripod you already have? Put on bricks or something?

Well, we already have 2 sheds in the easement area, and the clothesline as well. As i said earlier, if this easement severely limits what I can do with the land, then we shouldn't be damn well paying land rates on said affected land. I guess this is a have your cake and eat it moment for the powers that be. There's no wonder why I have zero respect for our government(s).

I can't afford an observatory (it would be nice), so a pier will have to make do.

I'm pretty sure it's sewerage. I wonder if a sink hole developed cos of sewerage pipes whether we could sue the government for damages to our property ;-) logic says yes, but since the government only serves itself and not the people, and is above the law, I highly doubt it.

I'll have to ring the dial a dig and try and find out for sure what is there, and how deep it is, and as you say, be very careful.

Using the tripod means more space, and it's not as stable as a pier. it's also subject to minute movement due to changes in the ground surface etc. A pier is just a more preferred option in terms of pure stability.

Cheers,

Dave

Don't guess - call "Dial Before You Dig" to find out what's there, where and how far down.

You could find yourself digging into an 11kV electricity cable.

yes, totally 100% agreed. I did mention ringing dial a dig before doing anything in my last post.
