Sounds like the Benro range of tripods have a good track record

Not to forget that some Benro's convert into a mono-pod, walking stick/pimp cane (because you can never have too many polished wood nobs with an embedded compass)!

What camera and what focal length lens are you hoping to use this with ?
If its just wide angle (say for landscapes) or more for portrait then most tripods will probably be OK - but the more rigid the better.
If its a longer focal length (say for birding) then vibration and rigidity start to become more important and you do need to step up to the next level or get a wooden tripod and take other steps to reduce vibration (add mass to tripod, remove straps, use shutter release, have shutter delay etc)

Hi Rally I have a Canon 600D. I'm not really interested in birdwatching so the tripod would only be for shooting landscapes and portraits

Sooo... correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like I need to get a set of tripod legs, a head, an Arca-Swiss plate and a remote. Is there anything else? Haha the list keeps getting bigger and so do the holes in my pockets!

Here ya go Billi.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Horus...item3a6a6eb22d

It looks pretty, it's from Korea (they are producing some very good stuff there) and it's on your doorstep for under $300 bucks.

You won't need a remote initially as you can use the self timer on your camera which gives the tripod and camera a chance to stop vibrating.

Just buy an old tripod from ebay (it'll have legs, head, plate, good tripods will let you upgrade these later). I don't think you'll use a tripod, you really do not need one at all from your posts.
