I was going to suggest trying to remove the gradient too - I'm struggling with it myself.

Nice works houghy - I'm gunna give it a burl on my images too

Absolutely.

As I said, this target was my TRIAL target to get acquated with the CCD, having never really used on before. Nutted all the debayering out etc, and now I know what to do (a little more contrived than a DSLR astrophoto).

If tonight co-operates, it'll be about 4 hours on it from my side yard (much darker), but that means waiting till it is above roof line about 12 am.

Nice one Pat. I had a go at this last night although I did not get the pink/ red in the spiral arms to come through very well. I see you have done well getting that colour.

Hi all, I downloaded DSS and it stuffed up my laptop; couldn't shut it down, and it stopped the uninstaller from getting rid of it. The only
way out was to do a system restore. I am now reluctant to try
downloading it again, and am going to continue with registax.

more by good luck rather than good management with the colour in the arms steve...... but i must admit i was amazed at the stack...... this is i am sure is what drives us all on!
