48.2C was the hottest at Wudinna yesterday. The heat has moved east, lots of 46C readings popping up in western and southwestern NSW currently, Hay so far reached 47.6C and it's not even 3pm yet! One to watch...

edit - Wilcannia also just hit 47.5C...

on the other hand - the nights have been extremely clear. Best start to a New Year that I can remember - no clouds and no moon.

And their is supposed to be a comet visible in the North, but I haven't found it yet.

Sometimes in early seventies I worked on construction of Robe River Project in WA. For three days we had temperatures reaching up to 127F. Two guys died in that heat. When I got back to Sydney no one believed e that it can get so hot.

We have had a lot of 40+ days here already, my partner who is 7 months pregnant is not amused!

Lots of clear nights here too, however seeing has been abysmal. You could actually watch Jupiter warp into all sorts of exotic spheroids...

No kidding, looking at Jupiter at LMDSS on Sunday night was like watching a wave in the shape of a vaguely spherical blob. I thought there was a serious issue with my EP until I changed it.
