On the Ridge

A 12-frame panorama overlooking beautiful rolling mountains and dark skies over Lostock, NSW. The green air glow on the left (sadly not aurora) appeared in lots of nightscapes on the Friday and Saturday nights across most parts of the country.

Canon 6D, Samyang 14mm lens, 30s exposures @ F2.8 ISO6400, 12 frames.

Oh that's stunning !
Check out the detail in the foreground, wonderful.
You also got a big 'wow' from Sue and the kids, they loved it too.

I don't often use the word "fabulous", but it's well deserved here. Subject, colour, light and composition are all A+ in my opinion. This one really should end up an award-winner. Nailed it!

Wow – that’s a stunner Mike. Looks like a poster for a Hollywood blockbuster about some enchanting, magical land - far, far away!

Cheers

The way the milkyway wraps around and the cloud patterns are pretty cool. Very nice colors too. All ties nicely together.

A stunning photo Mike.

By far the best of all your Nightscapes.

I love the subtle tones and colours in the foreground and the exposure and colours in the sky is perfect.

Great composition.

Even the green skyglow blends in well.

I was in Coonabarabran that weekend and I think I can see the green skyglow in a lot of my photos as well.

Ross.

By far the best night scape you have produced Mike. Colour adjustment is very nice and not overdone. Natural looking with good saturation. Nice work.

Yeah Mike that is sensational. I agree its your best so far. Love the star colours. And the detail in the foreground. You were game showing that much foreground in the image but its paid off nicely.

A stunner.

Greg.

Thanks mate, I've wanted to capture those hills in a nightscape every year at IISAC and I've finally got the right gear to do it well I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Thanks Dennis! There's some amazingly beautiful scenery and rolling hills up there. I hoped to do it justice.

Thanks Marc. I almost wished the pano was a bit further to the right to get a full rainbow effect but I didn't capture enough frames.

Thanks Paul. I held back with the processing on this one to suit the scene a bit more

Thanks Greg. As I said to RB above, it's a foreground I've seen every year while heading up there to get mobile reception during the day and I've wanted to capture it in a nightscape but just haven't had the right gear with the right sensitivity to capture it well.

It would be great with a thin moon in the West to illuminate the hills a bit more too. Maybe another time.
