Fox fur and Cone nebula.

Hi,

This is my first run with my second DSLR cooler, this one works properly.

Decided to try something that would test it out with 8 minute subs. I tried the fox fur and cone nebula before without it, I was wasting my time.

Without the cooler exif temp was 27 celsius on a night that was 15 outside temp, with the cooler exif was 17 and outside temp was 25. Not the cooling you get with a dedicated CCD but still useful.

8" f/4 astrograph, orion mini guider, HEQ Pro 5 mount.

Unmodded canon 1100D baader coma corrector.

8 minute subs at iso 800, total 64 minutes, darks frames applied.
Median stack in DSS, processed in PS 7.
Cropped image.

Cheers,

Justin.

Nice image Justin. Seems to be lots of faint nebulosity coming through, and nice colours.

Quite a bit of background noise there still Justin but it's a very nice field at that image scale. Good project for a cooler night.

Nice Justin,
One of my favourite areas as well, this image just incites me to return!
Is it a modified cooled camera? Or is it a boxed version?

Paul

Thanks Paul!

It's a box cooler I'm using, not as good as modified camera but a quick solution to the heat problem.

Cheers,

Justin.

Nice shot Justin!! - the cooler box is certainly making a difference. I continue to be impressed with how well the unmodded 1100D picks up the reds! 64 mins with 8 min subs - so that's only 8 subs? That's a great image with not that much data - I reckon that you would greatly reduce the noise if you added more subs aside from the cooling aspect. When you consider that most CCD imagers are taking that many subs for each colour channel + lum ....

Yep, will certainly be going longer now I have the cooler. I'm really looking forward to what I get out of my setup now.

Cheers,

Justin.

I agree with David, seems summer is no fun for uncooled DSLR's ...still, it's a very interesting field and you have finished with a respectable image in the end, nice.

Actually, I looked at this area last imaging session through a mates 6" Celestron, couldn't see as much as in your image of course . Was nice to do some visual while the camera chugged away on the AG12

Thanks Mike!

I'll have to pick my nights, even with the cooler.
