Here's a quick one I did this morning making sure I can run everything for the eclipse. I had the polarie and cameras and everything running off the car battery. Stopped the polarie test so I could keep the horizon line. Also minimal amount of cables and bare minimum packed to rehearse. I should be able to focus on not becoming some croc's meal in Cairns.

A little bit of flicker. There is a anti flicker plug in available at Granite Bay Software.

Also the horizon is distracting as its not level.

You can get a small cube with 3 bubble levels in it and it attaches to the flash hotshoe on your camera. Some tripod heads have a bubble level. Or buy a circular one from Bunnings cheaply and put it on your tripod head.

You used the Polarie in this sequence?

Is this in RAW and then done in Lightroom?

I've never time lapsed so I can't really give you any constructive comments except that I liked it and I hope you get a great sequence on the day.

I forgot my torch to set up and I couldn't see the level bubble.

Yes at 1/2 sidereal rate just at the beginning of the sequence then I stopped it because I wanted to keep the city skyline and not follow Venus.

Hi Marc,

The sun when it comes up is really very bright (of course). I wonder if you would get a clearer view of the sun with an ND filter.

Otherwise if you do same settings with the eclipse it will be hard for some time to see the effect of the moon coming over the sun until it is quite dim.

I'm going to use the Pentax *istD with a widefield portrait view and no filter. Then I'll also use the NEX-5 with a 200mm lens and not filter again to get the corona at totality.

Perhaps try to underexpose it a tad if you can and bring it up in post processing. That may help. How well do the shadows hold up in your 1st D? Can you boost them without much noise?

Yeah I thought about that too. But I hope that during the eclipse the light drop will be significant to see a big change in the widefield version.
The Pentax gets pretty noisy very quickly. I had a lot of problems back then when using it for astro-photo which is why I purchased my first cooled CCD.

Its always a compromise.
