Was looking through an old astro book from the 80s. The picks that people are taking from their back yards nowadays are far superior to most of the shots taken by pofessional observatories back then.
I dare say that if this rate of improvment continues people may be outclassing hubbles shots from the burbs in a decade or two.

technology is great, but at the same time as we have seen with dennis awesome jupiter, you need the conditions right to be able to bring collimation, temps, focus, image scale all together abd show it off!
It is great from a visual astronomers point of view too. Eyepieces are better and cheaper. Telescopes are much cheaper and easier to obtain and of course there is the internet. Things are very good for our hobby today
