Square Kilometre Array (SKA)

I have word from a reliable source that a preliminary announcement for the choice of the site for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be made in September 2006. Australia and South Africa are supposed to be the top contenders because of radio quietness.

It's so exciting! I can hardly wait!

For those not familiar with the magnificent SKA project, it will be an array of radio telescopes interconnected to work as a single massive radio telescope that will see farther than ever before.

i am keeping my fingers crossed ..hope Australia wins...it will be a tremendous boost to astronomy in this country ..and for many people like Silvie who are studying to be professional astronomers

for those who are making the decision...we beat SA in the cricket so there's a good reason to pick Australia..apart from the fact that radio noise in the proposed Australian sites is about the lowest you can get

Australia front-runner for top radio telescope

Australia listed as front-runner for world's top radio telescope.

Australia and South Africa are the front-runners for the SKA.

I heard that on the news this morning as well, incredible news.

It's planned to be built in WA, if we win it.

That would definitely be worth a drive over there for a great photo opportunity (once it's built).
