Question Hope our Townsville members are safe

ABC is reporting that:

"Buildings collapsed and roofs were torn off houses as a terrifying storm hit Townsville, while heavy rain and strong winds caused chaos across north Queensland this morning.
The worst damage in Townsville is concentrated in an area of about one-kilometre radius, taking in parts of the suburbs of Vincent, Pimlico and Gulliver, where up to 40 homes have been damaged.
Residents have described taking shelter in their bathrooms and hallways as the surprise storm ripped open their homes."

Here's hoping that our Townsville members are safe and well. Warren, Liz, Carl???

Thanks David, all OK here, but as Warren said, I havent seen Carl on FB, though the power is out in town to over 17000 people. Carl lives near to where the ? tornedo went through.

Just had a snooze before, but had been awake from 3 ish with severe winds and rain, all very scary stuff.

Am shocked to see what has happened in town ... think 40 house have lost their roof, or part of, descruction everywhere over a few suburbs.

Am lucky as still have power!!

If this had happened to Cairns I'd say it's just warming up for the eclipse. The locusts are due about September, the tsunami will hit in early November and the meteor will strike on the Tuesday night.

Carl's Back

Copied from FaceBook

I'm back

Been waiting for our power to come back on. It's a mess up here. All our big trees in the backyard are trashed. We were really lucky...if the tornado had've come about 150m further down our road, we'd be in the same spot as those up the end of the street. The houses are trashed, completely. Many others closer to us lost roof iron and everyone lost trees. When it happened, I kne
w something was wrong as I first saw lightning whilst I was in the toilet at about 4:50am. When I went back to bed, the lightning started to turn green and there was a booming sound....then the wind hit. The lightning looked like someone had struck a huge arc on an electric welder. The rain was horizontal and I can tell you now the wind was a lot faster than 120kmh. I had heaps of trouble trying to close our windows, which had blown out, and the rain was just bucketing through the windows. Luckily, I had closed them in time before everything got soaked, but things still got damp. I can tell you, compared to Yasi, this was a lot more scary. We got 190kmh winds here in Yasi....anyone who said this wasn't as fast was either lying, didn't know what they were on about or blind. The trees were being ripped about a lot more than they had during Yasi. Most of the palm trees around the area were laying nearly right over in the wind, which they didn't do in Yasi. Our house literally shook and moved about on the foundations, but luckily didn't do too much damage. The main area of destruction is bad. Whole houses were blown away like nothing more than matchsticks. Poor people there are going to have a hard time getting things back together. I hope the government does everything to get them back on their feet.

Well, I have some piccies of the disaster that I'll post on here soon. I hope we never have to go through that again. I'd rather go through a cyclone, to tell you the truth. At least you know a cyclone is coming. A tornado just appears out of nowhere and the winds are far more destructive because of the small size and intensity of the storm. Just glad to still be here in one piece.

dont be frightened now Warren, be brave and confront the bright object - you wont be disappointed. Perhaps wear your eclipse sunnies if too scared.

The front page changes daily, or with events, they are probably on another page, I will see if I can find them.
