You are correct in a manner of speaking Peter - the full well depth of the QHY10 is 45000 electrons while I was comparing this to my other camera a QSI583wsg which only has a full well depth of 25500 electrons.
A noticeable difference for me even on first usage.
I liked the first impression too as I felt it was more "Batman begins" rather than the usual BrisVegas technicolour. At the moment I'm processing it again (you listening Mike?) to bring out more detail and structure but maintaining the look of the original.
Batman begins Heh he Expecting to see more dark and brooding sequels too then
I love the dust you've brought out Allan. Last night sure was a tease with Orion right there all night, but the moon right next door.
Hi Alan, terrific image, so much detail, so little processing, very nice. What is the 5" scope you are using for the image? I know you said it was full frame, is this with or without reducer/flattener?

The moon made things a little difficult but the shielding of the observatory really helps with this sort of situation. There is more in the image that I can Sidonio it to death.

I'm currently working on a very minimalist approach to this image. The 5" is one of two unbranded evaluation scopes that Steve Massey imported several years ago that eventually became the Meade 127mm apo. Hand figured with Japanese glass. There is no reducer/flattener in the train as it doesn't need one.
I'm 5 Km from BrisVegas CBD with quite a bit of LP but my neighbours are really good and switch off their lights if they see the dome open. Wish Brisbane would do the same!!! But I don't use any LP filter and find they are a waste of money (sorry if I offend filter officianados) and just shoot even if the moon is up as there are so few opportunities to image lately.
Allan,
I wish I had neighbours like yours - I think mine do the opposite when they see me out with the scope!! I'm 12km to the south of Brisbane and I'd be lost without my Baader UHC-S filter. Processing has been made a lot easier since I've got it back in my imaging train - it really tames the LP in my neck of the woods.
Iam amazed at the detail you have got in there AL,not burning out the core what a good combo with the 127 and Qhy10 .nice scopes these iam glad i got mine theres a thought maybe a qhy10 on the christmas list
AL
Very nice view Allan, to not burn out the core with 5 minute exposures is amazing. One day I may go down this path with a OSC CCD. All the best.
Lester, thanks for the comments. Im enjoying the QHY10 but will have to test its sensitivity against a faint object

I can't wait to see your repro of M42,
Cheers,
Mario
Mario, when I first set up my observatory I invited the parents and their children around. Now the children tell their parents to switch off their outside lights. Lucky me!!

Go for it Alan, maybe you could prise that QHY10 out of Houghy's miserable hands that he hasn't used to date.

Yes...I'm listening .
Hey the original had it's pluses but the new version is great too, viva Las Vegas ...has some nice background stuff showing through too, maybe combine the two...? Good that you were able to control the core without layering must mean you had the sub length just right for your scope-camera combo on such a bright bit, 5min through the AG12 with the Proline had the core as an unsalvagable bright white blob.
Nice outcome there, the QHY camera range are good value for money IMO
Thanks Trevor for the comments and I am happy re the QHY10

Id love to get to a dark site again for a while to see exactly what my scopes can do but cant match your combo Mike. It just gulps down too many photons and makes great photos but Im happy in my own little pond.
Looking good Allan, i was expecting a bit more color though, but there is plenty of detail to overlook that
Martin, it comes out differently each time I re- process it. I'm going to leave it alone for a while and re-visit it later. I'm happy with the detail too as the scope and this camera are well matched.

I like the second image the best, looks great with such minimal processing.
Finally Ive had so many attempts to get this the way I wanted, but every time I came back to it the damned thing looked different. So Ive decided that this will be my final posting of this image.
But I must say that there is a lot of detail there and so much to work with that I'm glad I purchased the camera.
