Fireball over Brisbane this morning!

Hi all,

Did anyone else see the very bright meteor (most likely an alpha Capricornid) at about 4:55 this morning? I was down at the local park ready to photograph the ISS, and happened to be looking up at the right time. I estimate the magnitude was about -4. It was heading towards Orion, and it must have travelled across 80 degrees of sky. The meteor itself was bright white, but it left a beautiful orange persistent trail with smaller spark-like fragments as it broke up. Definately the most spectacular one I've seen! Hope others saw it as well.

Wow – that must have been a lovely sight! Ahhh, I see you visit a local park for these conjunction and ISS shots – scrub my question re your shooting location in your earlier ISS post!

Astronomy is such a solitary occupation, it's moments like this that you wish you had someone with you to share the experience.
Speaking of sharing the experience.....Are you coming up to Cambroon Observatory this Saturday night?

You're right Dennis and Jeanette, it was a great sight and I am very lucky to have seen it! Unfortunately I was too busy looking at it and forgot to hit the shutter on the camera!

Yes Dennis, I only have to walk about 5 minutes and I'm in the middle of the park. It's quite convenient.

A trip to Cambroon sounds good Jeanette, but my sister is up from Hobart this weekend, so I'll have to pass this time. I'll try and get there one day though.

I was running along the beach and thought it was a plane blowing up. It was huge and scattered everywhere. It looked like it was falling on Stradbroke island from where I was at Woorim beach on Bribie island.

Very spectacular even made me join here.

seen one once when on a cold lonely beach,in the middle of the night fishing,travel from W to E,fairly slow,braking up into pieces.which flanked the
largest bit,quite amazing to see.Great you got to see this Stephen.
