Android astronomy apps

I've had a Android device (HTC Desire) for a month or so now and I've been looking into Astronomy related apps to use on the device. Below is a list of what I've come across and am thinking of or currently using. You'll need AppBrain if you want most of these.

GPS Status
http://www.appbrain.com/app/gps-stat...sim.gpsstatus2
Displays compass, GPS position, time, and built in level. I use it to level my mount and set GPS and time on my NexStar SE mount.

Google Sky
Pretty self explanatory

SkEye
http://www.appbrain.com/app/skeye/com.lavadip.skeye
SkEye is an advanced sky mapping application that also works as a PUSHTO guide for telescopes.

Where is Io
http://www.appbrain.com/app/where-is-io/net.dague.astro
Where is Io is an Astronomy application that calculates information on bodies in the solar system.

Heavens Above
http://www.appbrain.com/app/heavens-...m.heavensabove
This application reveals all iridium flares and satellites (including international space station) passing by at your location.

Messier Objects
http://www.appbrain.com/app/messier-...redale.messier
This astronomy app lets you record and keep track of your night sky findings of the Messier Objects.

Moon Widget
http://www.appbrain.com/app/moon-wid...oid.moonwidget
MoonWidget is a little astronomy widget that displays the current phase of the moon. It also shows time for moonrise/moonset depending on your location.

I've also come across gotothat, a Google code project for controlling NexStar mounts with your phone. That said it doesn't appear that the project is active with only one developer and no movement for months.

Anyone found any other apps for Android that would relate?

Excellent Android App

I found WhereIsIt-Astronomy a great android app (use it on my htc Aria). Has Messier, Caldwell and star catalogs and user-save favorites. Easy to use (it converts Ra/Dec to horizon coords). This is recommended by the Royal Observatory of UK.

Hi!

I am the author of SkEye (mentioned by Andrew in the first post). I come from the Northen Hemisphere and bring you greetings

I would like to get some feedback from Southern Hemisphere users about the accuracy of my app.

I have received a bug report from one user in the South, on email, but he didn't respond to my reply! So, the issue is not confirmed yet.

Thanks!

Try Astronomica, turns the screen into a red flash light.

Bubble, bubble level for your mount.

Adobe PhotoShop Express, twiking pics on a handheld.

Damn, have copied all my files onto new card, popped it in,all looked OK. Started to DL apps, but says I havent enough room. Popped the card back into laptop, and says I have 14 GB free. Any suggestions??

.... all Ok ... seems the apps are downloaded to your phone, and you then move them to the SD card, wich I am doing, so now more room. : )

Liz,

It's like all storage devices. They state that you have 16 GB on the card, but, after all the filesystems and everything else behind the scenes is created, you end up losing about 10% in management overheads. The same can be said of hard drives you buy for your computer.

Nice list of Apps. There's also Star Chart which looks pretty good to me so far, though it isn't a freebie ($3)

Not sure about the easiest Liz, but the Star Chart app I mentioned has an option to find it for you provided your phone has gps of course.
