A few creature close ups from Roma Street Parklands

Hello,

Just finished processing a few images from a recent trip to Roma Street Parklands in the centre of Brisbane – a lovely, welcoming, green oasis in contrast to the stark glass and concrete edifices straining upwards.

The Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog was around 2 to 3 cms long and some 1½ to 2 metres away. Sadly, not even the Image Stabilizer (IS) on the Canon lens could predict the motion of the grass stem swaying in the breeze, so I had to squeeze the shutter release at the peak or trough of the swaying movement, where the frog was momentarily stationary.

The EWD was perched atop a rock under heavy shade so I used a burst of auto flash to fill in the shadows.

Thanks for looking!

Dennis

Absolutely Fantastic

Dennis,

Just looking at the thumbnails was sufficient to tell that these would be
superlative shots. And clicking on them did not disappoint. These are
simply awesome!

Best Regards

Gary

What lens did you use for these?

Thank you David, Troy and Gary – it’s quite refreshing not to have to auto guide on your subject for a change and to be able to see what you are doing!

Cheers

Hi Rick

Thanks! Be sure to get there early – we arrived around 6:30am and had to leave at 8:30am due to the fierce heat and high humidity, although the forecast is for cooler weather on Saturday I think.

If we do go on Saturday, we’ll probably arrive around 7:00am so we might just see you down there.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Colin and Ron, these delightful creatures were quite co-operative, although the Wrens were quite flighty and only alighted for a second or two before darting off again.

Cheers

Hi David

Thanks! The photos were taken with the Canon 300mm F4 L IS. I still get lulled into a false sense of security with IS, and sometimes use it like a standard lens, ending up with camera shake. You still need good technique when shooting at 300mm!

Cheers

Dennis

Awesome shots Dennis! My faves would have to definitely be the absolutely gorgeous water dragon and the spider web and spider glistening in the sun. Very well seen and well shot! Thanks for sharing

That eastern water dragon is spectacular, Dennis. But, they're all great shots -- as we've come to expect of you.

Hi Liz

Thanks and whoops - next time, I’ll be sure to post a warning along the lines of “danger – spider photos lurking in the package”!

On a more serious note, I hope I didn’t cause you too much discomfort with the spiders and it is always a pleasure to hear from you.

Cheers

Dennis
