Yet more COOLabine

Widefield from the Ponderosa last weekend, unfortunately the fog and high level thin cloud was rolling in as I shot this hence the skyglow from the south. Thanks to paul for the use of his mount and expertise.

Single image 3 mins @ F4, 70-200 F4L @70mm, no darks or flats just ICNR

This was the last image before packing up.

I've been to Ponderland a couple of times now, it's a very nice spot, I was particularly impressed by the night noises, all kinds of birds and frogs. We won't mention the Hilton Observatory, talk about comfort, although not a single Paris in sight.

We were dogged with cloud most of the night, all but a couple of my images had that light gradient from the high cloud, plus I had the lens set far too wide.

I'm glad you got something for your work Phil. We'll try to do a bit better with the weather next time.

It would be an interesting widefield shot for me from your latitude. Being able image the LMC from your place must be a treat. I'll try to get down there before you move up here

Airfares are cheap, especially if you book well in advance.

We have some mountains 30 (mt Barrow) and 45 minutes away (Ben Lomond) both around 5000 feet, I suspect the imaging from the tops, particularly Ben Lomond, would be fantastic

Btw my last return to BrisVegas was under $300.

I have a few of the smc that are better but still way too wide, I was too focusses on getting focussed.

Nice capture mate.
I assume you used the 5D MkII?

Oh how I'd love to visit the Ponderosa one day.

Yes the 5DII, I didn't put in much of an effort mostly a social visit between jobs for the kids in Brisbane.

It's well worth a visit to the Ponderosa, the sky is dark, enough coffee, tea and chock chip cookies to give you a caffeine headache and good company.

jjj also provided a very tasty Pasta meal, something I wasn't expecting.

As I said airfares are cheap (keep an eye on Jetstar) if you book fare enough in advance, perhaps we could organise a Mod's fly in weekend sometime.
