Celestron edge HD 925 on CGEM Pro mount

Im seriously considering buying the celestron edge HD 925 on CGEM pro mount from America. Would this telescope be good for astrophotography both planetary and deep space?

Good for astrophotography, both .... Reasonably so, a fair compromise will do both, note be ready for the challenge longer focal length imaging brings.
With a 6.3 reducer you are somewhere around the 1500 mm mark. If you are confident at that sort of imaging go for it.... The optical tube is good, I don't know much about the mount though.

Most USA dealers are not supposed to sell to another country where there are already dealerships in place. Celestron is big on this.

Some USA shops will sell... many won't. When deciding on an OS shop..sometimes it's not always price you should aim for. A reputable dealer is paramount as it's a long way back. The dealer shown has a good name and the other is OPT. Of course you just want a good deal. Everyone does.

If you find an OS company that will sell & ship to downunder...best you do not advertise this too much as local dealers can get upset. Best to talk in general terms without naming OS shop names.

Oh...and that is a good deal. A place to view deals.."the find".

This should be a great general purpose AP set-up. The OTAs are supposed to be great and the mount...excellent!
Anyway...I wish I had the dosh for a set-up like that! Green with envy I is.

I meant to say, at this price, compared to local prices...I'd be doing exactly the same as you...If I had the dosh. The Mount is a GCE Pro not a CGEM.

I'm pretty sure OPT don't ship Celestron overseas. They don't specifically mention who (they ask you to contact them for details) but I'm pretty sure it's Celestron, as they make a point of mentioning them with the used items. Used items are free from any export restrictions.

One thing I've considered to get around such restrictions is to find a freight forwarding company in the US. I don't know of any off the top of my head, but there are plenty of services like this to get around export restrictions imposed by manufacturers or retailers in the US. May be worth looking into.

With the Aussie dollar looking so good atm, it's VERY tempting.

Good point on freight forwarding.... Price USA comes to mind ...although there are many like myUS2, box Voyage, USA2me..to name a few.

OPT can sell opened & demo boxes OS without restrictions. As for the names brand...you have to contact them.

The package the OP is looking at is an excellent deal compared to local prices. If you ever to spend up big OS...now's the time.

with the current exchange rate (98 cents) can you blame me for wanting buy from america?sorry to say but australian retailers need to rethink their prices. I have seen some telescopes selling for half price in america.

It's not quite that simple. The US dealers get better discounts due to volume. The manufacturers do things like ship to Au via the US so you effectively pay for two lots of shipping. The local guys have to make some profit.

I try to buy locally, but sometimes the US prices are just too good to pass up. OPT got some of my money yesterday.

OPT got my dosh on Monday.

But to Mark. No one can blame you due to local prices and OS disparity. I'm doing so now and have previously done and will do again in the future, the same as you.
