the 8" GSO is 200mm x 1200mm making it F6. if you take care you will rarely have to clean the mirrors. I have had mine for about 1.8 years and it still hasnt been properly cleaned. I did blow off some hairs once... mirror cleaning isnt hard but needs to be done properly. if you searchthe forum there are threads on cleaning mirrors

As much as it nearly strangles me to recommend another society if you are based near the CBD then the North Sydney Astronomy Society may be the go.

Bono,

I live in Roseville (just a train ride away) and have an 8 inch GSO Dob...and a few other toys...if you struggle with finding a club to hook up with feel free to send me a PM and I can let you see what the animal looks like before you buy...
