Are you guys going to run your cams overnight?
Then I could check out the sky without going outside!

IDGIT!
it will be DARK - and you won't see anything anyway !

i think RB turns his camera off at dark Geoff

mine is supposed to go 24/7, but i noticed it has been turning itself off
i am looking into that
it would have to be a very clear nite and a very bright star for my camera to pick anything up i think geoff

maybe the moon - but i am looking too far south west for that even i think

geoff

Adam, thanks, glad you liked it.
It's a great package indeed and works perfectly.
I'm very glad I listened to the advice given here.

Geoff that looks great, I really like how you've set up the skycam.

Geoff, the skycam gets switched off at sunset since it won't pickup any detail once it's dark, as Geoff said.
I do run the weather station uploads till late at night though, until the computer gets shut down for the night since I'm using the kids computer to run the software.

On and off for some time, I have been watching this thread, and wondering about getting one of these Weather Stations. From the recent posts, it seems as if the bugs have largely been ironed out. I see from eBay that they are going for about $85-100 + $25 postage, but the ones I'm looking at don't seem to mention a model number. Can anyone with a good working machine recommend a specific model/supplier, and the best software to go with it, please?

Mike

the model is the WS-1081

"Weather Display" is good - but you have to pay for it

i use "Cumulus" - does the job , no problem - easy to set up and upload to your website - constantly under development with new features - and new version in the pipeline - and FREE (well donation if you want)

just noticed

new model available
WH-1091

new screen plus looks like improved wireless distance

$115 + $20 postage

might bring down the price of the WS-1081 being offered at the moment

well - it is not really an astronomy post is it !

but - yes it has been going for a long while - and will probably go on a lot longer

funny how much the weather decides whether we do our astronomy, whether we like it or not.

Thx Geoff for the site i found the manual to operate the base unit.

I see that the Themor unit is now a Bios unit still works tho.

The distance between the base unit and the sensor is 6 mtrs max.

Thx again Cheers Kev.

Gee, what a thread! Plenty of great info, which I probably should have read some time ago having recently completed my weather station set up. I ended up down the Davis path. Top quality, but not cheap as this thread implies. Anyway, pic attached of the set up. Have to say the Davis Weatherlink software is quite comprehensive, but it isn't hard to read measurement variables and graph them.

Of interest to those who are looking to automate your observatory and are laughing at the price of the Boltwood cloud sensor, you maybe interested in this considerably cheaper alternative. - http://tienda.lunatico.es/epages/Sto...bjectID=605253. I've purchased one. Quality product with good support provided by Lunatico from Spain. Software is great - http://www.aagware.eu. I've not looked back given it's saved my equipment a few times already.

Cheers

Any guesses how I reset these? I especially thought the Last 24 hour would have reset by now, but its been showing 4.2mm since thursday night when I set it up.

Oh...and no, we havent had any rain

I'm attempting to write some code to upload the data from the easyweather.dat file, both in html and wap mobile phone friendly pages, on a 30 minute basis. I'll post the results when I have it running.
I had the same issue. The instruction book is wrong. To reset all rainfall data try the following : Press "SET", press "SET" again and again until the rainfall section is flashing. Press "+" to cycle through 24hr, week, month and stop when you see the figure for "Total". Hold "SET"for at least 2 seconds and all will be reset.

Fantasic thread guys!
I've always wanted to know who had these units and here you guys are talking about them. I was wondering how long have you had them and are they still working?

Cheers.
