Small dew straps for canon lens

Hi folks,

Can anyone point me in the right direction to purchase a dew strap for my wide lenses for the Canon?

I am using the kit 18-55, but will be eventually upgrading to the Sigma 10-22.

Need something that will keep the dew off both at night.

Baz.

Baz I use the Kendricks straps.
Take a circumference measurement of the lenses you use and get one that will be close, with a little room to spare.
Then just use the Velcro strap to wrap around the lens.

If I get a chance I'll dig out my strap and let you know what size I use on the 10-22mm.

And I've used DewNot heaters successfully for a camera lens.

Bought mine from Peter Read here:-

If it is oversized a bit, it doesn't matter - it can wrap back over itself, no problem.

But you will need a controller. Build your own with a Jaycar Kit CAT. NO. KC5225.

Andrew, are you using yours on your DSLR setup?

I regularly take my Canon out in minus temperatures on the tripod with the wide lens.

Anyone got some photo's of their DSLR setups with dew gear, controllers, battery sources? I really need a portable setup that is going to last at least 8 hours.

Baz it's been a while since I've done widefields with my Canon lenses but yes I have used my straps on them when I've imaged.

One night at the pony club I forgot to use the strap, set everything up and set the timer and away I went to chat to the other fellas.
Sure enough the lens dewed over very quickly and the frames were wasted.

I had a look and the 3" Kendrick strap is what I use for most of my lenses, like Eric said a little overlap is fine and will allow you flexibility as to which lens you use.

I don't have any photos of my setup, but I use a Dew Buster controller and my "hot box" to power everything in the field.
See this thread: "Hot Seat"

I picked the 2" cause it said in stock and it is about the size you want for a camera lens. Email Peter and ask?

When selecting a strap, remember that if it is too short you are in trouble, but if it is too long you can just double wrap it and operate at a lower duty cycle

Hi Barry,

I use the Dew Not straps with a Kendrick Controller & have had no problems with them. I bought them from an Ebay Store called Telescope Products Smartastronomy.
http://shop.ebay.com.au/merchant/rub...fromZQQ_ipgZ25

The straps are very cheap even with postage added.

Cheers,

Kim
