Tarting up my old newt.

I will post this in sections (just shout up if im borring you all

Well is was sick of the sight of skywatcher blue, so i whipped everything off the OTA, sanded the old paint off and got it to the powder coaters.
I picked it back up the next day and they made an excellent job.
I know satin black is not the most outragous colour, but i kind of like it.

Looks very nice indeed, and I reckon black is just right, it will be a totally reborn scope.

Thanks Erik.
The inside is now flocked, thanks to my local Spotlight store.
10 A4 sheets of self adhesive felt for only $3 each
Sticking an A4 sheet in one go was tricky but not too frustrating.

Yep, Amercian Dad, alright.

Nice job ,Tony. This is exactly what I was going to do with mine, except I decided to build a small Dob with the optics.

The end ring was posted for you this morning.

Actually, I have the end ring for the mirror-end also. If you need it, let me know.

Next i thought i'd give the tube rings i made a tweek.
They where just ali bar shaped into rings with the clamp on one side.
This was a bit too tight, especially if i needed to rotate the OTA.
So i cut them and stuck a hinge in, now they work much better.

You're getting dew on the secondary? Haven't seen that.

Showing my inexperience here Mike, i have not used this scope enough to know whether it would suffer from dew or not, i was just playing safe

Cheers.......

Dew shields generally come built in for newts. The usual rule of thumb is that about a tube radius' worth of tube length in front of the secondary/EP is more than enough to keep both safe from dew -- and stray light, which may be a problem depending on the light situation at the site you observe from -- ie 4" or so of tube length for an 8" scope, though my 8" only has about 3" and it's always been fine.

Like your project BTW, nicely done - Mike
