Both my father and father-in-law were there on that day. My Dad actually landed while Gregs Dad stayed on board his ship.
I never got to know my father (he passed on when I was only 3), but this article makes me feel closer to him in some ways.

Thanks for the link Ron – very sobering reading regarding the casualties. In a recent TV documentary on the lead up to the D-Day landings, it was revealed that a dry run (using live ammo) on a UK beach some weeks before had gone horribly wrong resulting in some 750 allied troops dying during that exercise.
