Melbourne Clouds (Sorry)

Yes; the gods are against me!

Been trying to learn drift alignment (DA) for a while, using an illuminated reticle, without much success! More like frustration!

Finally bought myself a lappy, downloaded eq align and been clouded out since!

Had a window of opportunity tonight, working my way through the manual while actually doing it with a toucam in the ed 80.

Limited success!!!!! Putting the star in the red circle, ah I see, adjust to the green circle, oohh this is good, only very small adjustments now!!!!!!

OH NO, clouds, clouds clouds!

Only 7 more sleeps till I have to go back to work. I've got to get this sorted. Funny, it hasn't even been 2 years since I first looked through an 8 inch dob, The learning curve continues!

Melbourne's weather, I'm with you man.
You'll get a clear night on the last night of your leave. Happens to me all the time. That man Murphy loves us!

I know how you guys feel, I'm playing cat and mouse with the clouds as well.

If I set up it's cloudy and if I don't it's clear, trying to time to clear nights with the weekend is the real tricky part.

Cheers

Melbourne's weather - don't get me started on Melbourne's filthy hellhole climate. Satellite suggests that all this low overcast crap might clear by evening, although I guarantee that somethimg else will ensure we don't get a clear night, like the presence of high cloud above it
Absolute disgrace at the moment, just like last year.

However Monday might be good and may just drag the scope out after my evening shift if I can be bothered....

But *if* it clears after 10pm, there'll be barely 2 hours left before the moon rises.

and then there is morning cloud/fog forcast, Melbourne style.

At kilmore 60km N the skies were crystal clear & cloud free, got a few shots of eta & found cent A thru the 15x70's..had a cruise around scorp/sagitt

Far beter than living east of dandenong (more cloudy nights than Melb itself)
average was 1-2 clear nights a month in winter (usually when the full moon was out)

I got in probably 4 hours last night from Werribee before the high cloud and then fog!

We really do get some fantastic nights occasionally, they just don't seem to happen when I've got new toys or when I'm on leave!

With luck I may get another window of opportunity this week before returning to the grind on Monday.

Yeah, bloody DSE. I don't even bother to contemplate a night of viewing with them burning off.

Yeah, "Cloudbourne" seems right. When it's clear, you "have to" rush to get set up, the instant you setup, must get a viewing, get maybe 10-15 minutes in, then the low lying speckled cloud rolls in.

I've noticed, it can be up to 3 hours of cloud, then all of a sudden, it disappears and it's back to great clean skies. What the.....
