update part 2

Hi Guys n Gals...

Just wanted to let you know that I'm getting closer to my new setup, not quite there yet though. I've been following all these threads closely, can't wait to be back imaging again!

On Tuesday I received my new camera, a Dragonfly Express from a company in canada called Point Grey Research. The weather has prevented me from trying it on the scope, but side-by-side tests with the other cameras I have here on the bench show that it's absolutely a fabulous performer - high sensitivity, low noise, high data rate... it's everything I could have wanted.

Next week I'm off to Sydney to collect my new tube and drop in on the optician who is making my mirror to see how he's going.

Fingers crossed I'll have a new 13" scope up and running in another month or so..

regards, Bird

Hey bird. Where ya bin? Next time William comes out from HK we'll have to try to organise a get together somewhere (I think he loves it up here in Qld. wouldn't take much to talk him into moving here I think ). I'd love to see the two of you working together with your new setup.

GOod luck with your new gear. You do know we're expecting some seriously hubble challenging shots when you get it up and running

Hi Paul - I've been here, but winter in Canberra is not good for planetary work, too much temp difference from day to night.

I'll be back up in central qld probably in April next year with the new scope, maybe we can catch up then?

That'd be great bird, I look forward to it. We'll make sure Saturns nice and high for you then.

I lived in Sydney for 7 years so I know about temp difference from day to night, though its no Canberra that's for sure , that's one of the reasons I moved back home here to the reasonable Sunshine Coast.

Cheers

Hmmm,

This time of year...

Sydney: day temp = 24, night temp = 12 , difference = 12

Canberra: day temp = 20, night temp = -3, difference = 23

The scope takes almost the entire night to cool down.

regards, Bird
