NGC 346 in SMC

The only conspicuous nebula in the SMC.

L=R+G+B, 60m R, 60m G, 60m B BRC-250 scope and ST-X10ME.
Seeing condtions weren't crash hot for this one.

I like how you have processed this one Steve it looks quite natural and "unprocessed" if you know what I mean..?

Stuff in the SMC is often over looked for that in its larger brother, so nice to have a squizz at it at times.

I initially thought the colour balance was all wrong for an emission nebula. I was expecting to see red but I suppose the green in the nebula gives it a distinct OIII flavour.

One of the things that perplexes me about this hobby is how stars colours can either be pronounced or missing even though the RGB exposures and processing routines are the same.

This is one of those examples where there was no need to boost the saturation of the image.

very nice shot of what, for some strange reason, is one of my favourite objects-I seem to have imaged it with an ETX70(!) , an ED80 and an ED127 over the years-but there are hardly any amateur images on the web..though from memory I did think you had a previous version on your website?

That’s a beautiful, detailed and very natural looking portrait Steven – top stuff. Once I’ve master the art of recording and processing (mono) DSO’s using my ST7, I’d love to have a go at (L)RGB images like yours, so thanks for the inspiration.

Colour introduces it's own set of challenges. Not only colour balance but dealing with gradients, even under reasonably dark skies.

Thanks Narayan. Yes I have imaged this object on three previous occasions. I've always struggled with the colour balance for this object. The first time it came out blue, second time red, and this time blue green!

Images on the net show a similar variation.
