cameras and computer auction
I've just come back from the first part of a Grays auction for the liquidation of Optima computers - I only bought some office furniture.
The second part of the auction for the actual computers is now on.
Interestingly, there is a lot of Canon and Nikon camera stuff up for auction and some
Meade items (prisms?) as well.
Might be worth a look if you're in the market for a cheap laptop or camera accessory.
Auction is here.

Just had a look through what is on offer Geoff, pretty cheap if you were in the market for accessories and stuff.

If there is more than one article in the item, are you bidding for all of them, or just one?

You need to go to the detail page for the item, there it will say how many are in the lot.
I got caught out on this in the auction I mentioned above. I thought I had successfully bid $49 for 1 gas lift office chair out of the 14 available. Seems I was actually bidding on a single lot of 14 chairs! I had to hire a truck this morning to pick them up
I can't move in my hallway for bloody chairs!

Surely he picked up a bargain of 14 chairs for $49.
I hope so anyway.

Yes, $49 for the lot. I wouldn't have put a in my original post if not.
If I'd had to pay $49 each, no suitable smilie exists to convey my displeasure (and the moderators would have surely deleted my post due to bad language!)
Still, on the bright side, that's this years Christmas presents taken care of

Bidding at some of these auctions can be a trap, especially with IT stuff. While in some cases you can inspect it, you can't actually turn it on to see if it works. And, as houghy pointed out, you sometimes have to buy a pallet load at a time.
Also it pays to read the detail carefully and if in doubt, contact the auctioneer.
For example in the auction I mentioned, there were several lots of LCD monitors
that seemed to be a bargain until looking closer, at least one of them was a lot of faulty monitors returned for warantee repair.

I love auctions!
I bid on some mouldings once. Bid $8 for the 8 lengths on display, won it. Ended up being 200 + mts of the stuff. Was cool though, used a lot of it to frame up crafty black boards to sell and the rest I sold per length at the markets.

The auction is closed, How often do they come up?
I was going to bid on a lap top, but chickened out
as I don't know enough about them.

Grays have IT auctions going on all the time. They vary from ex lease equipment to brand new stock.
You can usually inspect most used items but most of the auctions of new items come with full manufacturers warranty. Be careful of the buyers premium i.e. commission as it varies and is in addition to your successful bid price. GST may also apply.
