Sky is clear, seeing is good!

Lovely night out here tonight! Quite cold, but the sky is beautiful and clear after a few clouds went through earlier, and the seeing has really steadied and is quite nice indeed.

Nice to finally see what the GRS looks like! It's been a while.

Get out amongst it!

On the downhill run.. did the meridian flip about 30 minutes ago, and I've probably got about 30-40 minutes left before Jupiter goes behind the tree.

The seeing is still quite good but has more moments of unsteadiness now than it did 45 minutes ago.

I could tell even at 8pm when I first put the eyepiece in that the seeing was gonna be pretty good, when even when it's out of focus there's not a lot of shimmering or wind whipping past the out of focus ball.

Gotta do my tax first thing in the morning and then working from home the rest of the day.. i'm sure i'll find some time to process an image or two

The seeing deteriorated shortly after I posted that, probably because the temperature dropped again. I didn't put the cooling back on; by the time it got cool enough and I then waited for the effects of it to go away, it would be lost behind a tree.

If I was braver, I would've put the cooling on and then turned my attention to Uranus or Neptune in the good seeing. But it was cold and I was tired. So I went to bed

Yeah Mike
Geoff (Inmykombie) and I were out last night here at Avoca and the seeing was quite spectacular. We were watching the GRS too transit from about centre right through to finish. All other objects the stars were magical pinpoint. You could see pinpoint stars right to the centre of Tuc47.
Yep and the seeing here was good till about 11.30 then whooshka jetstream.
Hope Pony Club is as good.

Very nice work Mike, have not seen such quality from anyone using 5x. Most seem to over process.

Obviously the quality with such high magnification is greatly dependent on the seeing conditions.

Now I have some idea of what I should be striving for.

Regards
Trevor

That makes me feel a little better. I went out around midnight, and Jupiter was just a hazy ball. Stars were pretty well pin point, but Joop was attrocious, I could hardly make out cloud bands!
The only good part was spotting the Sculptor galaxy with the bino's.

Cheers,
Jason.
