How proud we are to honour our service men and women of past and present.
And how encouraging it is to see how the younger generation have embraced the legend of the Anzacs so their tradition will live on forever.

Lest we forget...

Some pictures I took in April 2006

ANZAC Cove.

Atarturks message at Ari Burnu.

The view from the Nek looking along the beaches towards Suvla Bay. Note the terrain.

The Australian War Memorial at Villers Bretonneux.

my grandmothers father was a light horseman although i cant remember the details off the top of my head i remember finding a webpage which had a photo of him on there, another family member who passed a bit over 12 months ago (mabee a little more) was one of the few remaining diggers.
it is just incredible to know what these men went through for their country

I must say thunderchildobs those images brought tears to my eyes... especially Ataturk's message... such a respectful note to leave to all those, on both sides, who lost their lives and who fought and those back home who love/d them.

Lest we forget.

Sad comment. It will never go away, long live the ANZAC's. Sorry you feel this way. If people don't have the ANZAC spirit in their heart then maybe they should live in another country. Its not just about a holiday as we always go to the dawn service then have a BBQ with friends to celebrate how lucky we are to live hear.

Matt.

This morning at work, quite a few people said they went to the Dawn Service or one of the other ANZAC Day things.

I found this rather interesting - in my workplace, I'm the only one eligible to march (having been in the RAAF), but one of the few that didn't go...

Long live the ANZACS

It's not only your optical instruments that have a norrow field of view.

I doubt the terrorists would have you. Better stay here.

We must never lose sight that every digger who fought in WW1 & WW2 volunteered.
A sense of duty not only to England but the rest of the world.

The poor descisions made by the English war cabinet eventuated in needless deaths but we can always say that after the fact.

There are too many factors involved to mentioned that gave rise the "ANZAC LEGEND'

Here is a quote I found in the book "TOBRUK" by Peter Fitzsimmons:-

Today you and I are not only part of history, we are history in the making
For years we have enjoyed, almost without effort, almost without thinking, freedom won for us by others who endured;treasures of art and letters not painted by ourselves:free speech and enfranchised thought earned by unknown heroes in forgotten days.
Today, the guard and saftey of all those things depend on us.
The heritage of the ages is in our keeping.
We are not creatures of Destiny but Destiny itself.
Without us, all that is decent and kindly and holy will perish from this earth

Thats a fine dose of `jingoistic' nationalist fervor you have there. I'm sure you would make a much more convincing terrorist than me

While there were many career soldiers many pimply kids, were influenced by astute political advertising , and roaming recruitment trucks, and many joined to escape the possibilty of being given the `white feather'
, not having any real idea about the reality of warfare. I doubt once dropped into the hell of battle, they were thinking of much beyond their own minute to minute survival.
