Sold: Celestron NexStar 8i telescope (8 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Go-To)

The unique design of the single fork arm Celestron NexStar 8i offers an outstanding combination of a relatively lightweight, computerised go-to telescope, with serious aperture for planetary and deep sky observation (2.5x the light gathering power of a 125mm (5") model).

This is the classic NexStar model 8i (manual is dated 2003), featuring Celestron’s famed Schmidt-Cassegrain 8" aperture optics with a powerful 2,032mm focal length and f/10 focal ratio, StarBright XLT ultra-high transmission multi-coatings and Pyrex mirrors. It has been upgraded with the addition of the computerised go-to hand controller with extensible coiled cord, that includes more than 45,000 objects in its database, including the complete Messier, NGC, IC and Caldwell catalogs. There are also customized lists of all the best galaxies, nebulae and other deep-sky objects, an automated “tonight’s best” tour and room for hundreds of user defined objects. As Celestron say, “The universe may be full of mysteries, but using the NexStar 8i isn't one of them!”
  • Designated AutoGuider port and an auxiliary port for optional accessories
  • Easily accessible battery compartment (8 x AA batteries) and auxiliary power socket
  • Celestron's 25mm 1.25" E-Lux Eyepiece; StarPointer Finderscope; 90° Star Diagonal; 1.25” Visual Back and Instruction Manual are included
  • Extras include a flexible dewshield (pictured), 12V battery cable and Bob’s Knobs collimation aid (never fitted)
The absence of scrapes and bruises show that the telescope has been well looked after by its previous owners and the renowned Celestron optics are in excellent condition. Even from a light-polluted suburban backyard, the Cassini Division in Saturn’s rings appears as a crisp, black line and Jupiter’s cloud bands, Great Red Spot and Galilean moons are highlights, especially on nights of good seeing. The big globular clusters – Omega Centauri and 47 Tucanae – are stunning, with countless stars resolved as individual pinpricks of light and the Moon looks like you could almost reach out and touch it! Planets, galaxies, globular and open clusters, double stars and nebulae are all readily accessible with the combination of go-to to locate them and the power and clarity of the NexStar 8i optics to observe them.

The telescope will be shipped in its original single carton factory packaging, with a total weight of about 25kg. All freight arrangements (including insurance if required, collection, transport and delivery), to be made and paid for by the buyer. I will advise an address for collection by your appointed courier/freight company during working hours and will liaise with them to ensure pick-up takes place as scheduled.

Price $1,650. All inquiries by PM, please. Inspection is welcome if you’re in Perth.

Thumbs up Shipping arrangements

Shipping to anywhere in Australia is not a problem. All of the original packaging is in good order and the telescope came here safely from California, so it should easily travel back to the Eastern States.

As noted in the advert, the best way to handle freight is for the buyer to control the transport process by making the arrangements at their end and then advising me who I need to co-ordinate the pick-up with.
