Really large Prom.

Well this is the biggest prom I have imaged on the limb of Sol.

Also happy with a flat field technique to remove the bands. It brings out the spicules really well. Maybe not to everyones taste, but I like the look of this image.

yep you have got a fine image there, it seems to have a loop at the base... i could be wrong here but a lot of that activity is to do with magnetic fields and the looping is something to do with that ( feel free to explain... i think with your gear you are going to be the one to know)

Thanks all,

Alchemy you are right about the magnetic fields. Loops are caused by positively charged plasma moving toward negatively charged plasma. This loop developed over the course of a couple of hours. Sometimes the interaction is more energetic because two sunspots will be present.

That is a hot image, sorry the pun, very nice indeed, it gives a real prospective of how small we really are here on our little Planet, top shot.

Leon the really interesting thing is that this prom is probably about 2.5 earths high and about 4-5 earths wide. That really gives a sense of perspective.

Hope someone's got their camera working today - there's a really long string-like prom. The Sun almost looks like a christmas ornament.

Great capture!
You can make out the "slinky" spiral effect too. Good one.

Thanks all,

Cass, I am totally blanked out at the moment. SA has had a huge cloud bank over it for 3 days now. Waiting patiently for more viewing.

Wish I could see the prom you are talking about. Although I have had a quick look on SOHO and saw the prom you are talking about.
