Thumbs up Couldn't help myself!

I've given in.

Been converted by the leading lights of the imaging world.

Finally heading down the mono firewire CCD path.

Yes... my DMK21AF04.AS is on its way

I haven't decided on filter wheel or filter options just yet.

I'm going to have some fun with it in black and white for a while before learning how LRGB imaging is done

I'll probably be holding on to the ToUcam for a while, just in case I decide the whole thing is too much for me.

But I'm just so excited to be having a look at one of these units which are growing in popularity so quickly.

Hooked!

You don't have a PST do you? Once you can get focus with the DMK you don't have to worry about filters

Then there is always the moon.

Congrats Matt - you'll enjoy using the DMK and the results you will get will be well worth the energy and intellect invested in the learning curve, not to mention the money spent on the camera!

Cheers

Dennis.

Excellent work Matt. You can still make good use of the mono - take some images in Luminance, and then switch cameras and take an image with the ToUcam to combine them. It will be tricky to do it in a short time, but can be done.

Then of course there's the moon!

I took mono images for several weeks before I got colour

Sounds like a dose of spendthrift fever, a mate once said "once you have the bug, the only cure is to spend your way out of it". Congratulations on the new purchase Matt

That's funny Phil. Although I'm hardly in Striker's league.

I've been using the ToUcam for about a year. I think I was about due for an upgrade, especially as I want to get more fair dinkum about my planetary imaging.

Cheers

Bird talked me down from those lofty heights...

for a short while, anyway

Better to spend a bit less $$$$ on a DMK and find out whether it's for me or not than go the whole 9 yards on a SKYnyx.

If I enjoy LRGB imaging, the Lumenera range will still be waiting for me

Matt, keep the Toucam. You may need it for the guidescope.

Good news about the DMK

Yep.

Will be keeping the trusty ToUcam, Ken.

Will be following Mike's lead for a while, combining DMK mono image (Lum) with colour ToUcam data, as well as just practicing with the DMK in mono.

Should be fun

Do I need to buy any type of filter for this?

I'm assuming I do but if not how do I keep dust off the ccd chip?

happy 3000 posts btw,

maybe just the ir/uv filter will be fine.

i believe the skynyx etc will be a 2008 thing, once we can get some decent speeds on the computers and software

I didn't use any filter to start with, but you could use an IR blocking filter.

Keep the cap on

I've had to clean the chip a few times since I got it, no big deal (like the ToUcam).
